One thing that really frustrates me these days is the over use of phrases like all, every, never, none and the majority of absolutes. There are many reasons for this but a few that come to mind at this immediate moment are it’s gaslighting in an argument, it’s rarely true, and it lumps large groups into categories when often times there are outliers and exceptions. You ever been in an argument and had the other person say ‘you never do ‘blank’ or ‘you always do this’? Let’s be honest, majority of people don’t always do the same thing, but that’s where the focus is because the person thinks they can win the argument with that. They don’t take into consideration the harm that causes to the other person (sometimes they don’t care either, but this isn’t for those cases). This is also often seen lumping together groups of people, but is also used to lump animals. We often hear all of some breed of dog acts a certain way, all of some kind of animal are aggressive, and the more harmful, all of a group of people act a certain way. I don’t subscribe to this mentality. I actually enjoy finding the outlier’s and exceptions to these ‘rules‘. I feel like people and animals alike are individuals with their own personalities. But hey, that’s just one person’s perspective. Everyone else has their own.
